Pumpkin

The pumpkin, known locally as “Kaddu” in India, is a round or oblong vegetable with a thick orange or green rind and a soft, mildly sweet yellow-orange flesh. Belonging to the species Cucurbita moschata and Cucurbita maxima, it holds a special place in Indian kitchens for its versatility and comforting taste. Its tender pulp is used in curries, stews, soups, and festive dishes, pairing beautifully with spices, lentils, and other vegetables. In many regions, pumpkin is also prepared as a sweet delicacy, showcasing its natural sweetness and smooth texture. Beyond its culinary uses, pumpkin is valued for its nutritional strength — rich in vitamins A and C, antioxidants, and dietary fiber that support immunity, vision, and digestion. Revered for its nourishing and balancing qualities, Kaddu symbolizes abundance, simplicity, and wellness, making it a beloved part of everyday meals and seasonal celebrations.
